The weekend weather forecast calls for light winds and dry skies. Local fishing reports indicate good action for snook, trout and redfish. The mullet run is in full swing.
Perfect time for a fishing tournament.
The second annual White’s Tackle Inshore Classic fishing tournament will kick off Friday at 6 p.m. A fish fry and the captain’s meeting will take place at White’s Tackle Shop, 1106 U.S. 1, Fort Pierce.
Anglers will fish as teams Saturday in an artificial lures-only format for snook, trout and redfish. Scores will be based on heaviest combined weights of one of each species. All Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission size and bag limit laws will apply.
Entry into the tournament is $350 per boat covering two anglers. An additional angler may fish for an additional $50, but boats may have no more than three anglers.
The payout will be first, second and third places splitting the combined entry fees 50 percent for first, 30 percent and 20 percent, respectively.
Anglers must fish from the boat, no wading is allowed. All vessels must check out in the morning at the Fort Pierce T-Dock with live wells open and numbers displayed. Check out will begin at 6:15 a.m. at safe light. Boats must remain in the water after checkout. All fish must be weighed by boat. No anglers may go East of any inlet at anytime during tournament hours.
Live release at the weigh in is encouraged, but there will be no penalties for dead fish. The weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday and boats must be in line in sight of the tournament directors by 4 p.m. in order for a catch to qualify.
